Eating our way through the 'Age of Food'

Simply walking down the local cafe strip, it's hard to not bump into a posse of people gathering around discussing the most recent new restaurant opening.  The past few years in Perth have seen an insurgence in small bar / bistros, tapas places and hip restaurants plating up 'dude food' or something equally trendy and 'now'.  If you add instagram and other social media forums to the equation, it seems that every Tom, Dick and Harry has become a 'foodie' by blogging pictures of their latest meal.  This article in the Guardian [http://www.guardian.co.uk/books/2012/sep/28/lets-start-foodie-backlash]- albeit slightly longwinded - goes on to discuss the cultural trend of food indulgence and how the everyday person is openly obsessing over food without being looked down upon.  Even the top booksellers list is dominated by celebrity chefs and food books.

So is this a shifting cultural movement, or a passing affair .. only time will tell.  In the meantime, I'm off to take a photo of the great salad I just made for lunch!
